Halvpergamentband från mitten av 1800-talet, guldornerad rygg med röd titeletikett, marmorerade pärmpapper. Ur filologen Fredrik Wulffs bibliotek, med hans namnteckning.

Samlingen innehåller Hugo Grotius 70 sidor långa företal, vilket ansågs så viktigt att det även översattes till svenska 1670, Prokopius ”De gothorum & de vandalorum”, båda i Grotius latinska översättning, Agathius ”Excerpta...”, Jordanes “De getarum” i B. Vulcanius Brugensis utgåva, Isidorus av Sevilla ”Gothorum, vandalorum et svevorum in Hispania chronicon” i Isaac Vossius textutgåva, samt slutligen Paulus Warnefrids ”De gestis langobardum”.

8vo. 182 x 112 mm. (6), 148, 932, (98) pp. With an engraved extra title. Red near contemporary morocco with gilt spine with raised bands, boards with gilt frames and fleurons, all edges gilt. A few minor stains, otherwise a clean copy. Stamp on title and last page. Exlibris of Jean Baptiste Lecuy and off Digard de Cuissart respectively on front board inside. Engraved portrait of Th. Fix mounted on front fly leaf recto.
Willems 1181. Warmholtz 1338. First edition, published 10 years after the author's death. Grotius, when in a precarious situation, had been named Swedish ambassador to France by Axel Oxenstierna, and Grotius commenced the work out of gratitude to Sweden. He builds mainly on classical authors such as Procopius, Jordanes and Isidore of Seville.
